The Fiscal Review Committee has delivered its report to the Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad.
Prof Biman said he promised at the time of the Committee’s appointment in March this year that the Report would be released to the public upon its delivery.
“This is being done today (June 8, 2023),” Prof Biman said.
“The Report has set out the significant fiscal challenges the Government faces and some possible solutions,” he said.
“The Ministry of Finance has had the benefit of reviewing the Report and its recommendations in draft and has been considering some of them as part of the National Budget process.”
He said a number of the Committee’s recommendations are for long-term changes rather than immediate budget priorities.
“These will be taken up by the Department of National Development and Strategic Planning.
“I thank the Chairman Mr Richard Naidu and all the Committee members for the considerable work that has been done in a very short timeframe. The Report is a valuable starting point for much of the economic dialogue and engagement the Government wishes to promote as we pursue new paths towards better fiscal management and economic growth.
“The report is being publicly released and can be accessed from the Ministry of Finance or the Fiji Government website.”
